Creating Comfort: Trust, Sedation, & Dental Anxiety
We know that visiting the dentist can be hard for many patients. That’s why we prioritize building a trusting, judgment-free relationship to help you feel at ease. For those with dental anxiety, we offer both oral sedation (medication) and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to make your visits more relaxed, if you desire.
Our team loves hearing stories from patients who begin their journey with us feeling anxious but, over time, find themselves confident in our care. If sedation is what you need to start feeling at home in the dental chair, we’re here for you—no judgment, no pressure.
What to Expect During Your Dental Appointment
Routine dental exams and cleanings are essential for preventing oral health issues and catching them early, allowing you to maintain a healthy smile. Most patients benefit from exams and cleanings every 6 months, although we may recommend a personalized schedule based on your individual needs.
Here’s what typically happens during your dental checkup with us:
- Comprehensive dental exam: During your checkup, we’ll visually assess your teeth and gums for any signs or concerns like cavities, gum disease, or other possible issues. We will also ask if you’ve noticed any pain, lumps, bleeding gums, or other symptoms.
- X-rays: We usually do X-rays annually to gain a deeper understanding of your oral health. These allow us to look beneath the surface to find potential problems. If we find anything, we can often take action to prevent needing more dental work later.
- Cleaning: Using professional tools, our dental hygienist removes built-up tartar from your teeth and along the gum line to prevent gum disease and tooth decay. We’ll polish your teeth for that clean, fresh feeling.
- Tailored advice: We’ll provide recommendations to enhance your oral hygiene routine and answer any questions about your dental health. For example, some patients may have mild misalignment that could be resolved with less than a year of Invisalign. Straight teeth are easier to clean and less susceptible to damage from nearby teeth.
Why Dental Exams & Hygiene Appointments Matter
Treating Gum Disease
7 out of 10 Canadians will have gum disease at some point in their lives. This very common condition is caused by bacteria-filled plaque that inflames your gums. Left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss and other serious health complications.
Your hygiene appointments allow us to detect and address early signs of gum disease before they worsen. If you’ve noticed bleeding gums while brushing or flossing, it’s time to book an appointment. We’ll help you get back on track.
Supporting Overall Health
Oral health isn’t just about having a bright smile—it plays a key role in your overall health. Regular dental check-ups can reduce the risk of gum disease (which has been linked to health conditions like heart disease and diabetes) and catch early signs of tooth decay and oral cancer.
By staying proactive with your dental appointments, you’re investing in more than just healthy teeth—you’re supporting your holistic well-being. However, please be assured that if you haven’t visited a dentist in a while, we’ll welcome you with respect and do our best to provide you with the positive dental experience you’re seeking.

Free Invisalign Consultations: Supporting Healthy, Beautiful Smiles
We want you to love your smile! Invisalign can straighten your teeth, bringing your smile into alignment in a way that promotes both the symmetry and health of your teeth.
If your bite is misaligned, it can be tricky—or even impossible—to completely clean between your teeth. And if your teeth aren’t in the right position, they can actually damage each other over the years. That means even if your teeth are alright today, they may be at risk down the road.
Curious what your smile could look like after Invisalign? Book a free, personalized Invisalign consultation with Dr. Lindsay Raoufi today.
