Spring Cleaning Your Teeth
Spring has sprung. Days are getting warmer, and flowers are blooming. People are starting to spring clean their homes and gardens. Crystal Smiles wants you to know that spring cleaning isn’t just for closets and cabinets, it’s for your mouth, too. Here are six ways to spruce up your smile in time for summer.
-
Purchase an electric toothbrush
Studies reveal that electric toothbrushes reduce gingivitis better and remove plaque than manual ones. There are a wide range of electric toothbrushes, so you can find one that fits your budget.
-
Replace your toothbrush/toothbrush heads
Make sure that you replace your toothbrush/ toothbrush head every three to four months or when bristles are frayed. Many people keep their toothbrushes/ toothbrush head longer than recommended.
-
Brush your entire mouth
Many people only think about brushing the front and back of their teeth. But, bacteria can reach and stay anywhere in your mouth, so the bottoms of your upper teeth and tops of your lower teeth need a thorough brushing, too. Also make sure to gently brush the roof of your mouth, as well as your tongue and inside of your cheeks.
-
Use a tongue scraper
These handy, inexpensive tools remove more bacteria than a toothbrush and are quick and easy to use. Gently scrape your tongue from back to front with the rounded edge. A few strokes is all you need for a clean and healthy tongue.
-
Floss Daily
You simply cannot deep-clean your mouth without flossing. Plaque builds up between teeth and under gums and the only way to remove it is by flossing.
-
